Applications Deadline - March 1, 2024
The Southwest Section of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists is offering scholarship assistance to deserving graduate and undergraduate students. To qualify, graduate or undergraduate students should be engaged in geologic research, especially as it relates to the exploration for and development of petroleum, natural gas, and other energy minerals while enrolled in graduate or undergraduate studies in geology or geologically related fields.
A 1-page abstract of the applicant’s research must accompany the application. The amount of the scholarships will be at the discretion of the Southwest Section Board of Directors.
The application must be signed by the student’s research advisor, either an electronic/digital or ‘wet’ signature is acceptable.
Although not required, we would encourage the recipients or any students doing scientific studies that relate to the geology in the Southwest Region to present their papers at the annual Southwest Section Convention. If requested and approved, the Southwest Section will help pay reasonable expenses incurred by any students presenting papers at the convention. Outstanding oral and poster presentations will be eligible for further awards.
Scholarship recipients are strongly encouraged to attend the Southwest Section AAPG Annual Convention so that they can be recognized.
We offer grant assistance to universities, middle schools and secondary schools, within the boundaries of the Southwest Section, to support earth science education. Upon written request, the Southwest Section will consider financially supporting specific educational activities, projects, or equipment that will further the education as it relates to the geology.
